Spring Clean-up | Calorie Breakdown

There is a reason it's called housework... Are you finding that your schedule is extra packed this time of year?  Time to start multitasking and shedding the pounds while getting your work done.  So just how many calories do you burn doing that?  I've done the research.

Remember... 3,500 calories = 1 pound (lost or gained)...
If you have a 500 calorie deficit by the end of each day, you can lose 1 lb per week.

This means, you must either watch your portions sizes or start moving.  I always choose the later.  Here are your calorie breakdowns for your spring clean-up.  All of these calorie counts are based on a 150 lb person but will vary slightly with intensity, body composition, and your own weight.

1.  Washing Floors - 375 calories/hour

2.  Vacuuming - 240 calories/hour

3.  Cleaning Windows - 335 calories/hour

4.  Scrubbing the Tub - 360 calories/hour

5.  Mopping - 153 calories/hour

6.  Redecorating/Painting - 335 calories/hour

7.  Moving Furniture - 400 calories/hour (even more if you are taking the stairs!)

8.  Sweeping - 270 calories/hour

9.  Washing the car (by hand) - 290 calories/hour

10.  Organizing Your Closet - 170 calories/hour

Well, you better get started... Spring is turning into summer, you've got work to do, and those Memorial Day hot dogs will not burn off themselves!

Hope you have a great holiday weekend (and one that's productive too!)
Em
